Strong Middle Distance Runners Headline SPAR British Athletics Indoor Championships

Chris O'Hare's indoor season could already be considered a success, having picked up wins in the Wanamaker Mile at the NYRR Millrose Games and in the 1,500 meters at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix.

Now the Scottish middle distance runner turns his attention to Birmingham this weekend for the SPAR British Athletics Indoor Championships where he will face fellow Scot Jake Wightman. The pair went one-two in Boston at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix last week.

Another Scot, Laura Muir, is set to run the 3,000 meters, an event she won at the 2017 European Indoor Championships. She also won the 1,500 meters, but is only competing in the 3,000 this weekend.

The SPAR British Athletics Indoor Championships will not only be a middle distance affair. CJ Ujah is a likely favorite in the men's 60 meters. He has a season's best of 6.53 seconds. Asha Philip goes in the women's 60 meters, with a season's best of 7.12.

The field events will see Robbie Grabarz and Morgan Lake compete in the high jump and Katarina Johnson-Thompson, best known for her exploits as a heptathlete, compete in the long jump. Johnson-Thompson won the silver medal in the long jump at the 2014 IAAF World Indoor Championships.
